Tuesday Candy: Mariel Clayton and her Deadly Dolls

July 9th, 2013

Another recent find in the field of fantastical photography is Mariel Clayton; self-taught artist, self-proclaimed anti-feminist and armed with a sinister sense of humour. Sure, we all played wicked games with our dolls but this is Barbie like you’ve never seen her before!

H is for Haematolagnia by Mariel Clayton.

“Behind the vacuous perpetual lipsticked-smile and soulless eyes lurks the black heart of the true sociopath, just like in real life. I think it finally makes the doll interesting, and I like that contrast between saccharine sweet and pure malevolence.”

Quote from Bad Barbie: The Works of Mariel Clayton

We specifically recommend her series Fables for the Fairytale interested readers.

“The whole idea of Fairytales and Nursery Rhymes has always been fascinating to me because most of the stories and ditties that we know from youth have the darkest, most gruesome origins you can think of – and nothing that we would ever consider telling our children today.

In all honesty, we should add a warning: These photos are full of gorey details and gruesome themes such as rape, murder, cannibalism and more. It’s not for the faint of heart and you’ll need a hefty dose of dark humour to enjoy them.
